I just laid eyes on some photos from Sex and the City II. The pics that I saw show SJP in her summer white glory, looking chic and almost normal—as in, the outfit is not so bonkers and is somewhat relatable. I kinda adored the 1st SATC movie and especially loved SJP’s vulnerability in the Mexico scenes and Kim Cattrall’s bawdieness with her mini-pooch of a belly. Like any good chick I will of course see this ultimate flick and gush over the garb. But now that Carrie is a married lass I wonder how they will spin her tale. Can’t wait to see more shots of them filming!

Girl’s Just Want To Have Fun Remake in the Works?
Posted Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Pop Culture
I can hardly contain my sheer delight. I read a story this morning about how one of the most seminal 80s movies is going to get a 2nd life. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a total classic and features Sarah Jessica Parker in all of her permed, pre-Sex in the City, goofy glory. There’s dancing, sneaking out, gymnastics, rich kids, and of course, Shannen Doherty. It is not the be missed. There are rumors swirling that the remake may be a star vehicle for Miley Cyrus. I am skeptical. The genius of the original includes zingers like “Velcro. Besides The Walkman and Tab, it’s the world’s coolest invention.” How can you compete with that?

The Show on Earth
Posted Friday, March 6th, 2009 in Fashion
“He is a talent. He is so special,” said Sarah Jessica Parker backstage after seeing the Alexander Wang show.
“These clothes can be worn by everybody. By a lady…”Or by a cool woman like you,” I said. “Oh I’m not cool,” said SJP. “I’m not cool at all.”
Well, she looked cool to me in her Alexander Wang cutaway jacket, black booties and crop leggings and I was charmed that she wanted to wait in line like everyone else to congratulate the designer. Of course, the PR mavens wouldn’t hear of it and kept hustling us aside and asking her to cut the line.

Solange Knowles was seated next to me at the Tracy Reese show.
You know fashion people can be very snarky so they had to compare the sisters. “She’s prettier than Beyonce,” said one snark. Several people did comment that she’s much prettier in person.
Solange said she has a four year old son. “He loves to play football but he’s too young to start now,” she noted as we chatted about Reggie Bush.
Richie Rich’s front row included Ice-T and Coco, who I think is his wife—this is really not a fact worth Googling so allow me to be sloppy. Just thought I’d mention it because I’ve never seen them at a show before nor did I expect to. They seemed to enjoy the acrobat ballet performance and a musical number by Kat De Luna and the perfomance of “Send in The Clowns” by a woman who may have been a circus performer. I couldn’t figure it out. She was gifted with a most extraordinary voice and saddled with at least 200 lbs of weight.
This all happened by the way before we saw a stitch of clothes.
Speaking of celebrities, this post is dedicated to the fabulous Pat Reese, Tracy’s Mum, who died a few days before her show. The front-row seat where Ms. Reese always sat was left vacant with a bouquet beneath the chair signifying the flowers she always handed Tracy at the end of the show. Mrs. Reese, who had the most beautiful smile and warmth, was always ebullient and stylishly dressed in Tracy’s design.
For me, she was (is) a wonderful bridge between the sometimes icy, glamorous world of style and the earthy, nurturing arms of unconditional mother love. I know you were at the show.

Sex & The City: The Sequel
Posted Friday, February 6th, 2009 in Pop Culture
Sex and the City fans all over the world are stomping their stilettos with glee that the fab four
will be coming back to the big screen. The stars have apparently signed on for the sequel, set to arrive in cinemas some time in late 2010. It’s a long time between now and then so I am not getting my hopes too high. There could be another Cattrall contract dispute, an SJP wardrobe malfunction, who knows. I just wonder where the story will go now that Carrie and Big resolved all of their drama. It’s going to take some serious story-telling to refresh the stalwart series.

Hollywood Halloween
Posted Monday, November 3rd, 2008 in Pop Culture

Personally, I am not a costume person. I am always the girl who goes as the 80s version of herself or who throws on a vaguely ethnic item and tries to justify that I am some obscure character. However, Hollywood folk are all about the ‘Ween. They come out in droves to celebrate. I want to show you some of my fave (and not so fave) costumes:
1) Mariah Carey & Nick Canon: the sexy firefighting duo, trying to convince everyone that their love is red hot.
2) Michael Kors: vamping it up in a soignee ensemble. RZ and I both DIE!
3) Pink: in a weird clown suit, similar to how she always dresses.
4) Bette Midler: a cut up Top Chef complete with Crocs—Tom and Padma would approve.
5) Sarah Jessica: sitting deskside as a phone-banker. Oh wait, that is actually a pic of her volunteering for the Obama campaign. My bad.

Favorite Flicks From The 80s
Posted Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 in Pop Culture
April showers are still lingering. So what can you do for a rainy day special? How about an 80s movie marathon? Here is all you need: a pot of tomato soup, a grilled cheese sandwich, a cozy blanket, and about 10 hours…to watch all of the below classics, naturally. Standouts include:
1) Anything John Hughes, take your pick: Ferris Bueller, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club— inspired dialogue, inspired soundtracks.
2) Can’t Buy Me Love: Can you say suede bikini and McDreamy? Radical.
3) Fast Times at Ridgemont High: Spicoli’s checkered Vans are still the choice for hipsters everywhere. Totally trendsetting.
4) Valley Girl: Added “like” to the lexicon.
5) Girls Just Want To Have Fun: Sarah Jessica Parker wants to be on a version of Solid Gold and sneaks out to do so. Carrie Bradshaw would so approve.
