Pop Culture Party Planner

Posted Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 in Pop Culture

There are a few times a year when pop culture is celebrated in the home: Golden Globes, VMAs, the Academy Awards, the series premiere of the Real Housewives of NYC. However, it is indeed the holiday season and there are many ‘a party to go ’round this so why not make your shindig a little special—throw a pop culture party. The year’s end brings TV and print wrap-ups of all of the hottest stories in ‘08 so there is a wealth of information out there. Buy some tabs, educate yourself, and then set up shop: celebrate Britney (or any other star with a slight “cheese” factor) by making a cheese plate in their honor (think toothpicks with little pics of Brit on the end) , karaoke to the tunes of mega-singers Kanye, Coldplay, or Beyonce, buy some celeb trading cards and use them as coasters, have the boys in attendance grow Brad Pitt  ’staches (or be lazy and buy some fake ones), have a white elephant gift exchange and wrap the gifts in magazine pics of Heidi and Spencer (just so you can rip them open) and, don’t forget, play a round of Trivial Pursuit to test your pop prowess. Honestly, you may not be into all of this craziness but I guarantee even the biggest of naysayers will at least get a chuckle out of wearing a fake moustache.

Citrus Blends

Posted Thursday, June 26th, 2008 in Fashion

Bright yellows, oranges, and greens are the hues to make any outfit pop this summer. Pair these colors with gold accessories or even with a little gold embellishment on the garment.

Hot yellows make their way out of spring and into summer holding their place as the “it” color for young women. Bright yellow looks great in any formal or casual top. A cropped, preferably bell shaped, summer jacket in a magnetic citrus hue can be a staple for this summer’s wardrobe. For a fresh look, choose yellow for an evening gown. Love orange in a short flirty cocktail dress.

I recommend a bright (not neon) green (I also describe the color to myself as “money” green) for a fun eccentric or vintage look. Preferably in a pencil skirt or a sleek fitted dress. The unpredictable hue speaks life and prosperity!

Men can get in on the citrus look too! Kanye in money-green jeans or were they scrubs? Whatever, these colored pants - original and chic. For the less adventurous, a bright fitted tee will do the trick.
