CFDA Awards: Fashion’s Night of Fame
Posted Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 in Fashion
Just got back eight hours ago from what some like to call fashion’s Oscar night. It’s the Council of Fashion
Designers of America’s annual awards gala in New York. Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Mandy Moore, Tina Fey, Diane Von Furstenberg, Harvey Weinstein, Kim Cattrall, Candace Bushnell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, LL Cool J and Sean “P.Diddy” Combs.
No one wanted to leave cocktails and go inside for the awards so the evening ran late. Awards ceremonies are boring really, unless you or your child is getting one. And at this one, people were more interested in having fun outdoors in the balmy weather, star gazing, chatting with colleagues, sipping champagne and catching up with old pals.
At dinner later, Ashley Olsen and Eva Mendes hung out to talk some more and Ashley took a smoke outside.
Eva screamed when she heard Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein had won Women’s Wear Designer of the Year, but I’m with Victoria Beckham. She wasn’t pleased with the outburst or the award and didn’t mind showing it. She looked shell-shocked.

Let’s Play Dress Up!
Posted Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 in Fashion
I just started wearing dresses again last year. They make you feel feminine and flirty, ladylike, yada, yada. It’s really the freshest wardrobe addition for spring. And there are several styles to choose from. I think some of the best are the shirtwaist, the fit-and-flare and…I really love the new maxi.
The shirtwaist dress - tailored, flatters any body shape. Perfect for a variety of working arenas, whether corporate or entrepreneurial. Add a structured belt for a business look or use the dress’ own belt for a relaxed feeling. Lands’ End has some great dresses for under $50 and I like the crisp shirt dresses from Lauren by Ralph Lauren.
The fit-and-flare - Diane Von Furstenberg makes a lot of these. These dresses work on all body types and ages. Girly yet grown up —and skims the hips.
The maxi- for an evening date now or a weekend BBQ this summer. It’s romantic and carefree. Perfect with flats, it can be kept in the wardrobe straight through the summer months to keep cool. The best part is…NO SHAVING REQUIRED!
By the way, I’m saying hello again to the babydoll (like the one Lindsay Lohan is wearing in this photo). I am sure most women have at least one babydoll hiding in their closet. Well, pull it out or win a new one on eBay since the babydoll is one of the hot spring trends. Wear it with a pair of capri leggings or long leggings impart a more mature, polished look.
