The Stars Are Out: Twilight Premiere

Posted Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 in Pop Culture

I know that I wrote about Twilight last week but it’s becoming increasingly clear that this thing is a phenomenon of epic proportions. Truth, I have friends whose Facebook status’ that revolve around Twilight: “________is loving Twilight and is not putting this book down to go to sleep tonight,” “I’m obsessed, too. I am on the third book now and am only sad that there is only one more left after this!, “welcome to the addicted to Twilight club—by this time next week you will be on book 4!”.

The stars of the flick, Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson, have been met with screams and faints from fans whilst on their press tour. I just took a peek at the pics from the premiere and whoa, star-studded city! I have not seen such a wide array of stars, young and not-so-young, come out to the carpet. As for young Hollywood, the elite was representing: Camilla Belle, Nikki Reed, AnnaLynne McCord, Demi Lovato, Frances Bean Cobain, and of course, the aforementioned stars of the film. Kim Basinger, Jennie Garth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Perry Farrell, and Garcelle Beauvais were all present and I am assuming that they were there to support the fervent devotion their kids feel towards the series (or secretly because they heart it too!). I think it’s time I hopped on the bandwagon and got sucked in too!

Movie Premiere Weekend: Quantum of Solace

Posted Friday, November 14th, 2008 in Pop Culture

007 fanatics are champing at the bit for the new Bond flick. Daniel Craig made a splash (especially in his blue swim trunks!) in the last James Bond film and fans are eager to see where the new, suave Bond is going to take them in this next installment. Apparently Quantum of Solace is supposed to be heavy on the action, low on the lovin’. Either way, aficionados will still line up to see James’ latest gear and suave style.

Tonight’s TV: Top Chef Premiere

Posted Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Uncategorized

I am a Bravo addict and I cannot stop watching their 101 reality TV programs. It is a problem. However, my most favorite of them all is back! Top Chef Season 5 premieres tonight. This installment takes place in the Big Apple which will chew up and spit out the 17 contestants. Perhaps in honor of the premiere I will whip up a concoction from the Top Chef cookbook. Where is Smell-O-Vision when we need it?

Teen Trend: Twilight

Posted Thursday, November 6th, 2008 in Pop Culture

I keep seeing this Twilight thing all over the place. What is it? Teens? Vampires? I don’t get it. Maybe I am just too old. But as your Pop Culture Expert it is my duty to tap into what the young folks are into. And let me tell you, it’s definitely Twilight. It is a young adult vampire / romance novel series written by Stephanie Meyer about a 17-year old girl named Bella Swan who falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. Today I did a search on eBay and found well over 1,000 Twilight-related items, and that was just in the Fiction Books category. There is more stuff to be had in the Movie Memorabilia category too like posters, buttons, and bracelets. The film adaptation starring Kristin Stewart and new tween heartthrob,  Robert Pattinson, is set to be released on November 21st. Below is a video for a new track by Paramore (my teen guilty pleasure) that will be featured on the soundtrack for the film. Expect throngs of girls and goth-inspired black-clad teens at a theatre new you.

Rocking the Vote

Posted Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 in Pop Culture

No matter which way you voted yesterday you must admit that this election was a historic one—for so many reasons. Some of you may be thrilled to the gills today and some of you may be a little wary, but whatever the case, you voted, you made a choice, and a new day is dawning. I’m still swelling with civic pride! Speaking of winners, did you know that the Sarah Palin Cabbage Patch Kid went for $19,000! In second was the real winner, President(!) Obama with $8,400, Senator McCain with $6,000, and VP Joe Biden bringing up the rear with $3,550.01.

Hollywood Halloween

Posted Monday, November 3rd, 2008 in Pop Culture

Personally, I am not a costume person. I am always the girl who goes as the 80s version of herself or who throws on a vaguely ethnic item and tries to justify that I am some obscure character. However, Hollywood folk are all about the ‘Ween. They come out in droves to celebrate. I want to show you some of my fave (and not so fave) costumes:

1) Mariah Carey & Nick Canon: the sexy firefighting duo, trying to convince everyone that their love is red hot.

2) Michael Kors: vamping it up in a soignee ensemble. RZ and I both DIE!

3) Pink: in a weird clown suit, similar to how she always dresses.

4) Bette Midler: a cut up Top Chef complete with Crocs—Tom and Padma would approve.

5) Sarah Jessica: sitting deskside as a phone-banker. Oh wait, that is actually a pic of her volunteering for the Obama campaign. My bad.
