A lot of ink has been spilled on American Idol. From predictions to commentary to criticism, it’s out there. An article surfaced yesterday (written by my former boss at MTV, Gil Kaufman) about the cult of homespun Idol merchandise available on eBay. Naturally we were flattered. We’re just tickled pink that you can find an amazing array of goodies in our vast marketplace. Search the site and you will find t-shirts, clocks, pillowcases, and magnets up for grabs featuring the famous mugs of the final four. Kaufman quips, “There has always been a flourishing…market for “Idol”-related merchandise, but this year’s crop of mostly home-cooked products has reached a new level of intricate and sometimes creepy creativity.” We agree with Kaufman that the strangest “Archullectible” out there is indeed the Tabloach Ooak Kelly Tommy Picket Size David Archuleta doll. In my opinion it looks like a human MonChiChi. Personally, I am a fan of the Jason Castro doll. It comes complete with a head full of dreadlocks. The Castro earrings are pretty sweet too. I’m a sucker for a good accessory, especially one with hippie hair.

American Idol really is so enjoyable. I also love Karen Bard’s coverage of pop culture on ebay- she is great!

no can do on jason castro. i’m happy he got the boot. but i’ll be on the lookout for anything of sayesha’s or david’s (cook). the other david kinda creeps me out!

Agree that it’s enjoyable, but it takes so damn long to get to the end. Stakes need to be higher each episode…
