Superhero Soirée: The Met Costume Institute Gala

Posted May 6th, 2008

Yesterday in my pop culture recap I made mention of the ultra-glam, wham bam event of the year, the Met Costume Institute Gala. I have already looked through close to 200 photos from the event and let me tell you, the celeb wattage was high and the fashion did not disappoint. The theme centered around superheroes and the stars happily obliged. Supermodel Gisele and boyfriend Tom Brady looked stealth and sleek— impervious to the barking paparazzi. Actress Lake Bell sported a dress with lightning bolts, Speed Racer star Christina Ricci swanned around in a dress that had a leotard-like component, and Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter, wore her iconic double gold bangles. Furthermore, real life couples that are rarely photographed together strolled the red carpet with wild abandon. Karen Elson and husband Jack White strutted their unconventional style, Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen walked side by side, and Gossip Girl fanatics were drooling over the Blake Lively / Penn Badgley pairing that is so rarely flaunted in public. And in other couples news, Scarlett Johansson was spotted wearing a stunner on her ring finger, apparently a gift from her new fiance with the superhero worthy body, Ryan Reynolds. All in all, it was sha-zam soirée!

Yeah–Gisele and Tom were THE best looking couple of the night. Total eye candy. What Eva Longoria’s dress? I thought it just stunning!
